Events Planned In Wrightsville

Historic Wrightsville has announced several upcoming events.

A Veterans Day program will take place on Sunday, Nov. 7, at 2 p.m. on the porch and lawn of the Historic Wrightsville Museum, 309 Locust St. The event will include the announcement of the Class of 2021 Tag-a-Flag Honored Veterans. All 72 of the submitted names will be read along with each community veteran's branch of service and the conflicts they were involved in. Each veteran's name has been engraved on a metal, military-style dog tag, which will be attached to an American flag to be displayed each Veterans Day. At the ceremony, attendees may submit veterans' names to be added to the collection next year.

Tickets for the following upcoming events will be available at the Veterans Day program or may be reserved by calling the museum at 717-252-1169 or by emailing historicwrightsville1983@gmail.com.

Nov. 7 will be the last day for submissions for the Tree of Remembrance. The tree will be part of Wrightsville's annual Christmas Celebration at Constitution Square, Fourth and Hellam streets, on Sunday, Nov. 28, at 6:30 p.m. Following the celebration, the tree will be moved to the museum at 309 Locust St., where it will be on display throughout December. Community members may honor loved ones, either living and deceased, on the tree. Both the community member's name and the name of their loved one will be displayed. Donations will be accepted, with all proceeds going toward the maintenance of the museum and the diorama.

Memories and Munchies With Mary Ellen will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 17, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Historic Wrightsville Museum. Hosted by Mary Ellen Kasian, this drop-in gathering will feature conversation, stories and memories, and refreshments. Dave Radziewicz will discuss his experiences in the Vietnam War.

Historic Wrightsville will hold its annual membership banquet and business meeting on Friday, Nov. 19, at 6 p.m. at Hope United Methodist Church, 404 Hellam St., Wrightsville. Tickets must be reserved by Friday, Nov. 12. The event will include a roast turkey dinner, a presentation by Jeremy Young, a business meeting and the election of board members. The fee may be paid at the door, but reservations are required.

Chapels, Carols, and Cookies will be held on Friday, Dec. 3, at 6:30 p.m. Attendees will gather at the museum and then go caroling around the town, stopping at local churches to hear stories and historical facts and to see the illuminated stained glass windows. The last stop will be Wrightsville Presbyterian Church, 205 N. Second St., which will open its social hall for fellowship, cookies, and warm drinks. Donations will be accepted.
