United Zion Retirement Community, 722 Furnace Hills Pike, Lititz, will display artwork by Suze Moll daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Monday, Nov. 30. All art gallery visitors will be screened for COVID-19 and are required to wear a mask covering their nose and mouth. A virtual gallery tour will be available on United Zion's Facebook page.
Moll's exhibit focuses on art that was created using discarded items in an unusual way. Some of the works feature brightly colored alcohol inks and pages from old National Geographic magazines. Moll melted the ink from a National Geographic magazine, allowed the pages to dry, and then selected pages that had intriguing patterns or markings. After using a solvent to remove any unwanted ink, she used alcohol ink, liquid acrylic, colored pencil, or chalk to add details, highlight areas, and bring out the colors.
In addition, Moll creates mixed media pieces with materials such as plastics, papers, fabrics and acrylic paints. Inspired by her grandmother's love of sewing, she uses discarded clothing and fabrics to create wearable art. She sells these items at her store, ReMixArt to Wear. Moll also creates mosaic art using old broken dishes and has unveiled three-piece series from fabrics that were melted, cooled, and then painted and micro-bronzed. Her repurposing extends to making fairy houses as well.
Moll's love for art and design led her to become a graphic designer and the owner of Design Express and Associates. She has also developed workshops in color and transition and other topics. She grew up in Danville and is a graduate of Syracuse University in New York. She currently resides in Harrisburg with her family. Her work is showcased at her studio in Harrisburg, Amos Went West in Mechanicsburg, MAAA Gallery in Millersburg, Hershey Library, and various other locations in the area.
