The Art Gallery at United Zion Retirement Community (UZRC), 722 Furnace Hills Pike, Lititz, is featuring Lancaster County watercolor artist Brenda Blank as the United Zion Artist of the Month for March. The gallery will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. throughout March.
Blank is inspired by Andrew Wyeth, who stated "I paint my life" and whom Blank admires for his ability to connect the mood and organic feel of his subject matter. Blank's art is reflective of her childhood in rural Lancaster County, where she was fascinated by aged and weathered trees and the textures of streams and gardens. In her artwork, Blank focuses on items that may be overlooked, aiming to call out their purpose and meaning in daily life. She seeks to communicate her view that life is full of visual gifts and special moments. Blank enjoys experimenting with a variety of techniques and says she relishes the challenge of finding the balance between control and allowing the picture to paint itself.
Blank received her first award, an Honorable Mention, at Lancaster Museum of Art's summer show in 2015. She has shown her work at various locations in downtown Lancaster, is a partner artist at a business in Lititz, and creates a variety of commissioned works.
