ExtraGive, Extra Local

Just as they did last year, a group of nonprofits from the Southern End will host a special event as part of the Extraordinary Give (ExtraGive) on Friday, Nov. 20. The public is welcome to visit the Hoffman Building at the Solanco Fairgrounds, 172 S. Lime St., Quarryville, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. to participate in crafts, games, coloring contests, a scavenger hunt, and door prize drawings.

Food trucks selling barbecue, fries, funnel cakes, and more will be parked outside the building from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Attendees are asked to wear masks and maintain social distancing. Hand sanitizer will be provided at every station, and snacks will be prewrapped. Touchless donation stations will be available as well. Those who do not feel comfortable attending may participate by visiting http://www.ExtraGive.org between midnight and 11:59 p.m. on Nov. 20. The ExtraGive is a program of the Lancaster County Community Foundation, and donations will be stretched by event sponsors.

Organizations that will be represented at the Hoffman Building on Nov. 20 include:

- Black Rock Retreat, 717-529-3384, http://www.blackrockretreat.com. Retreat and camping opportunities for people of all ages, including students, families, and church groups, along with spiritual growth opportunities. Donations will go to the general budget. "Black Rock Retreat has been partnering with other organizations to provide meals and housing to those in need during COVID-19, and (we) provide scholarship funds for our summer camp program," said special events assistant Sara Hilf.

- New Hope Community Life Ministry, 717-786-2802, http://www.newhopeministry.info. Christ-inspired counseling center that provides hope and restoration through compassionate, professional counseling and offers sliding-scale payments. Donations will support clients who cannot afford the full cost of counseling. "So many have been affected by COVID and are struggling to cope. Counseling is more vital than ever," said executive director Deb Riddell.

- Solanco Education Foundation, https://solancoeducationfoundation.org. Inspires academic achievement at Solanco schools. Donations will support student scholarships, teacher venture grants, and education programs.

- Solanco Neighborhood Ministries, office@snministries.org, https://solanconeighborhoodministries.org. Runs a food bank and student eating program and offers help to access other resources. Donations will be used for operating costs and to provide aid.

- Solid Rock Youth Ministries, raeanne.nixon@gmail.com, http://www.solidrockquarryville.com. Gospel-focused youth center providing free programs to elementary and middle school students and their families. Donations will fund the hiring of another program director to expand into serving high-schoolers.

- Southern End Community Association, 717-806-0123, seca@epix.net, http://www.secarec.org. Recreational opportunities for local residents, including a swimming pool and community park. Donations will be used to provide more activities and programs. "The Extraordinary Give is a great way for the community to give back to those nonprofit organizations that were able to continue to support them (this year)," said director Rick Kerns.

- Quarryville Library, library@quarryvillelibrary.org, http://www.quarryvillelibrary.org. Promotes reading, new ideas, and knowledge while fulfilling cultural and social needs. Donations will fund staff wages in order to expand service hours and add relevant books and videos to the collection. "Our Friends of the Library organization has been unable to continue its typical strong support, and most other significant fundraising events had to be canceled," youth services coordinator Sharon Roche explained.

- Wakefield Ambulance Association, http://www.wakefieldems.org. Provides emergency medical services and also offers Good Neighbor Checks, child car seat inspections, CPR classes, and more. Proceeds will directly support client care through purchases of intravenous fluids, oxygen, automatic external defibrillator pads, and fuel for the fleet.
