The Factory Whistle Concert will again fill the early Christmas morning air in York at 12:15 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 25. Whistle maestro Don Ryan will present the 25-minute concert using the variable-pitched whistle installed at 240 Arch St., York.
Ryan will celebrate his 67th anniversary performing this one-of-a-kind concert. The whistle concert tradition has been taking place for at least 133 years in York on Christmas Eve.
For the seventh year in its history, people from around the world will be able to view the movements of the Ryan family playing the whistle at http://www.yorkpafactorywhistle.com. Streaming will begin at midnight.
Practice concerts were held at noon on Dec. 18 and at 6 p.m. on Dec. 21.
The whistle can easily be heard within a 5-mile radius of the concert location. Depending upon the wind, the whistle has been reported from as far away as 10 miles.
