Penn State Extension's Renewable Energy Team has announced plans for Farm Energy Day, a day full of information sharing and discussion around topics to help farms, rural businesses, and communities adopt and adapt to renewable energy sources. To be held on Friday, March 15, at the Adams County Extension Office, 670 Old Harrisburg Road, Gettysburg, the event will include presentations by Penn State Extension and industry energy experts, open discussions, and a site tour.
Information about improving the efficiency of the use of electricity, natural gas, and other fossil fuels will be discussed along with opportunities to displace part or all of one's electric bill with renewable energy. At the workshop, participants will be able to talk with installers as well as farmers who have installed solar photovoltaic (PV) resources.
Options to help with the costs of installing a system will also be presented. Experts will be available to help answer questions and provide additional information. Information on biomass heat and biomass crops will also be shared, including a talk about the wood chip boiler system at Twin Springs Fruit Farm in Orrtanna.
Registration for this event is open. The program will run through the day on March 15, and admission will include lunch, access to the vendor and display area, and a tour of an active solar PV system producing electricity offsetting the use of carbon dioxide emitting fossil fuel.
