On Dec. 1, 2019, Union Volunteer Fire Company of Felton and Leo Independent Engine Company 1 of Red Lion merged to form Alliance Fire and Rescue Services (AFRS). Fire line officers are in place, and AFRS Station 77 has gone live at the 911 center.
A swearing-in ceremony for the officers and board members of AFRS took place earlier this year. State Rep. Stan Saylor administered the oath of office, and other community leaders attended as well. In addition, a major donation to AFRS as a result of this merger was unveiled.
