Flute Ensemble Will Perform

Dec 15, 2019 - 4:00 pm

The Wind Spirit Flute Ensemble, a local flute quartet, will offer a benefit concert, "Music With a Mission," on Sunday, Dec. 15, at 4 p.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 301 St. Thomas Road, Lancaster. The concert will feature Juilliard-trained pianist Maria Thompson Corley as a guest performer. The program will include music of Haydn, Handel, McMichael, McGinty, and others.

Founded and directed by Allen Anderson, this new group - whose other members are Michael McCall, Sheila Long, and Jenny Fritsch - is the fulfillment of Anderson's aim to use his musical training to entertain and educate, with the long-term goal of raising money for charitable causes.

Anderson holds a degree in flute performance from Millersville University. Shortly before graduating from Millersville in May, Anderson formed Wind Spirit from flute players of the Millersville University Flute Choir. The ensemble has performed at the Wednesday Club of Harrisburg and various churches in Dauphin and Lancaster counties, and it continues to focus on community outreach with visits to nursing homes and similar venues.

Proceeds from the Dec. 15 concert will benefit the Water Street Mission and the Columbia Food Bank.
