The Lititz Historical Foundation has planned events for the Lititz Community during the month of December. On Thursday, Dec. 12, the annual Community Christmas Carol Sing will be held, and on Friday, Dec. 13, the foundation will hold its Christmas Candlelight Tour.
All area residents are invited to the Community Christmas Carol Sing, which will begin at 7 p.m. on Dec. 12 at the Moravian Church, 8 Church Square, Lititz. The foundation is holding the event in conjuction with the Lititz Moravian Archives. Free song sheets will be available for those who want to sing along, and the Moravian Trombone Choir will accompany the singers on a number of holiday classics. Following the carol sing, participants will be invited inside Moravian Church fellowship hall for light refreshments and a chance to view the church's Putz - a presentation of the manger scene developed to help children better understand the Nativity story - in the church social hall.
The Candlelight Tour will give visitors to the Lititz Museum, 137 E. Main St., Lititz, an opportunity to view the museum and the Johannes Mueller House, decorated for an 18th-century Christmas. Tours will be conducted by candlelight and low artificial lighting from 5 to 9 p.m. on Dec. 13, and the museum gift shop will be open at that time.
A limited number of tickets, which will be required to visit the Mueller House, 145 E. Main St., Lititz, will be available on a first-come, first-served basis beginning at 4:30 p.m. Timed tours will be held every 15 minutes from 5 to 8 p.m. The event is free, but donations will be welcome.
In addition to the period decorations, costumed docents will be available at the Mueller House to answer questions about life in the once-closed Moravian religious community. Light refreshments will be served.
The tour has been a tradition in Lititz now for nearly a decade. "It's our gift to the community," said Cory Van Brookhoven, president of the historical foundation.
