Pennsylvania's Department of Labor and Industry recently announced that its anti-fraud division has discovered fraudulent acts against unemployment compensation benefits. Scammers are using personal information, accessed through sources outside of Labor and Industry, to apply for benefits.
If someone has received a payment for unemployment or pandemic unemployment benefits and did not submit a claim, they can report the fraudulent claim and return the paper check payment. If someone received a direct deposit and did not file for unemployment, the funds, made by personal check, cashier's check, certified check, or money order, should be returned. Information on how to return payments is available at http://www.uc.pa.gov/Fraud/Pages/default.aspx. To report a fraudulent claim, readers may visit http://www.uc.pa.gov/Pages/Report-Fraud-Here.aspx.
