GEARS Community Center, 70 S. Poplar St., Elizabethtown, will offer a variety of programs and activities to the community. Movies in the Park will be held at dusk at the Elizabethtown Community Park Amphitheater, Spruce and Washington streets, Elizabethtown. Movies for the entire family will be shown on Thursdays, June 10 and 24, July 15 and 29, and Aug. 12. If necessary, rain dates will be one week later. There is no admission fee. Refreshments will be sold, and there will be giveaways.
An All-Comers Track Meet will be open to runners of all ages, speeds, and abilities. The non-sanctioned, non-qualifying meets will be held on Thursdays, June 24 and July 1, at 6 p.m. at the track at Elizabethtown Area High School (EAHS), 600 E. High St., Elizabethtown. There is an entry fee per person for up to three events.
An Intro to Medicare will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. via Zoom on Wednesday, June 16, and in person on Wednesday, Aug. 18. The basics of Medicare will be explained, and the program will walk through how to find a plan that best fits one's needs.
Creative Movement will offer children ages 3 and 4 an opportunity to learn how to interact in a group setting, including listening skills and taking turns. Classes will take place at GEARS on Mondays, July 5 to Aug. 2, from 6:15 to 7 p.m. Children will have active lessons in color, numbers, shapes, body part recognition, spatial awareness/directionality, balance, and a variety of developmentally appropriate gross motor skills.
Combo Dance Class will introduce and start to develop mastery of basic ballet and tap skills. The class is designed for children ages 5 and 6 and will be held from 7:15 to 8 p.m. on Mondays, July 5 to Aug. 2, at GEARS.
Tennis camps for three different age groups will be offered on the EAHS tennis courts in two sessions: Monday, June 21, through Thursday, June 24, and Monday, July 12, through Thursday, July 15. Participants may one or both sessions. Beginner Tennis Camp, designed for children ages 4 to 6, is set for 9 to 9:45 a.m. Intermediate Tennis Camp, for children ages 7 to 12, is set for 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. Teen Tennis Camp, set for 7 to 8:30 p.m., is for current or aspiring high school tennis players ages 13 to 17.
