Trail Riding will be offered on Wednesdays, July 22 and Aug. 12, at 11:30 a.m. at Ironstone Ranch, 1 Hollinger Lane, Elizabethtown. During the one-hour guided experience, participants will ride horses through the 275 acres of woods and farmland on the ranch. The horses are well-mannered and trained to work with riders who have little or no experience. For the safety of both riders and horses, participants will not trot or gallop. All children must be age 8 or older, and there is a strict weight limit of 250 pounds. Masks or bandannas are required when participants arrive and check in. Once the trail ride starts, masks may be pulled down.
Discover Dance classes will be held in the lobby of the GEARS Community Center, 70 South Poplar St., Elizabethtown, on Tuesdays, July 14 to Aug. 18, from 6:15 to 7 p.m. for children ages 3 and 4 and from 7:15 to 8 p.m. for children ages 5 and 6. The class is designed to encourage young children in a fun way to express themselves through creative movement and ballet and to develop body awareness, gross motor skills, rhythm and flexibility.
Girls and boys in grades four through six may take part in Coed Youth Basketball Combine on Wednesdays, July 15 to Aug. 19, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the outdoor basketball court at Bear Creek School, 1459 Sheaffer Road, Elizabethtown. Dribbling, passing, shooting and defense will be areas of focus at the clinic.
GEARS will also offer a girls' middle school volleyball program that will compete in a middle school volleyball league. Teams are for girls in grades five and six and seven and eight. The program will take place on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from Aug. 17 to Oct. 26 from 6 to 8 p.m., with practices outdoors at the Stoneybrook Park. League play will take place at Spooky Nook on Mondays, Sept. 14 to Oct. 26, with match times between 6 and 8 p.m. The cost includes the league fee, league tournaments, uniforms, and AAU insurance.
