A Superheroes and Princess Party has been set for Friday, Oct. 15, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the GEARS Community Center, 70 S. Poplar St., Elizabethtown. The evening will feature music, dancing, crafts, and a princess/superhero costume parade, along with a special appearance by well-known princesses and superheroes. Each participant must be chaperoned by one adult, age 18 and up, and is encouraged to dress as a princess or superhero. The registration deadline is Friday, Oct. 8.
A trip to the Dickens Festival in Wellsboro will take place on Saturday, Dec. 4. Departure will be at 6:30 a.m. from the parking lot at Elizabethtown Area High School, 600 E. High St. Attendees will be able to experience unique entertainment and shopping.
Glass Fusing for Beginners, offered by fused glass artist Kathleen Forney, has been set for Saturday, Oct. 23, and/or Saturday, Dec. 4, at the GEARS Community Center. Students age 6 and up will create their design by selecting glass in the color of their choice, cutting glass, and arranging their design on a glass canvas. The design will be fired at the instructor's studio and returned to the student the following week.
Two basketball programs will take place in the gym at East High Street Elementary, 800 E. High St., Elizabethtown, on Saturdays, Dec. 4 to Jan. 29, with no sessions on Dec. 25 or Jan. 1. The fee includes a T-shirt.
Sessions of Iddy Biddy Basketball, for 4- to 6-year-olds, will be from 8 to 8:45 a.m. or from 9 to 9:45 a.m.; coaches will teach basic shooting, dribbling, and passing skills. Youth Basketball, for first- and second-graders, is a coed skills development program focused on the fundamentals, with sessions available from 10 to 11 a.m. or from 11 a.m. to noon.
Additionally, the Elizabethtown Area Youth Basketball Program will offer organized practices and games, with the schedule varying based on age. Drafts will be held in the gym at Bear Creek School, 1459 Sheaffer Road, Elizabethtown, on Monday, Nov. 1, from 6 to 7 p.m. for boys in grades three and four; Nov. 1 from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. for boys in grades five and six; Wednesday, Nov. 3, from 6 to 7 p.m. for girls in grades three and four; and Nov. 3 from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. for girls in grades five and six. The draft for seventh- through ninth-graders is to be determined. Anyone interested in coaching or officiating may contact the GEARS office.
