GEARS Sets Schedule

The public presentation of the GEARS Community Center Feasibility Study will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 7 p.m. at the GEARS Community Center, 70 S. Poplar St., Elizabethtown. The study has been in progress over the past year, looking at the expanded use of the center to better serve the residents of the greater Elizabethtown area.

GEARS will hold the annual Elizabethtown Holiday Parade on Saturday, Dec. 7, starting at 4 p.m. The parade will travel on Market Street from West Bainbridge Street to Winnemore Alley and Mechanics Alley and will usher in the holidays with the arrival of Santa Claus to the square. The theme this year is "Let It Snow." The parade is sponsored by Elizabethtown American Legion and the Elizabethtown Rotary Club.

Children will be able to visit with Santa after the parade, as well as on Tuesdays, Dec. 10 and 17, and Thursdays, Dec. 12 and 19, from 6 to 7 p.m.; Fridays, Dec. 13 and 20, from 5 to 8 p.m.; and Saturdays, Dec. 14 and 21, from noon to 2 p.m. Additionally, the community is invited to join Santa for story time at the Elizabethtown Public Library, 10 S. Market St., on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 to 8 p.m.

A trip to see the Philly Pops in a holiday musical tradition will take place on Friday, Dec. 20, with a 9:30 a.m. departure from the parking lot at MoviE-town, 700 Hanover St., Elizabethtown. The program will feature the Philly Pops Festival Chorus, the Philadelphia Boys Choir, the African Episcopal Church of St. Thomas Gospel Choir, and organist Peter Richard Conte. Separate trip costs have been set for GEARS members and for nonmembers.

The American Red Cross Babysitting Training Course will be offered by certified American Red Cross instructor Dave Rosensteel for people age 11 and up on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 27 and 28, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Recreation Room 2, 600 E. High St., Elizabethtown. Attendees will learn to supervise and care for infants through early teenagers. In addition to basic care for infants and children, participants will learn about child behavior, age-appropriate activities, emergency protocols, and professionalism. Participants will receive a two-year certification for first aid and CPR/AED.
