GEARS will offer several summer activities. Unless otherwise noted, separate fees have been set for GEARS members and for nonmembers. Registration and details are available at http://www.getintogears.org or by calling 717-367-0355.
GEARS and Richard Knowlton Dental Associates will present Movies in the Park on select Thursdays. Movies will begin at dusk at the Elizabethtown Community Park Amphitheater, Spruce and Washington streets. GEARS will show "The Addams Family" on July 8, "The Croods" on July 22 and "Sonic the Hedgehog" on Aug. 5. In the case of rain, the events will take place on July 15, July 29 and Aug. 12. Admission is free, and refreshments will be available for purchase. Giveaways will take place every night.
Christmas in July, for students in kindergarten through grade seven, will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 24, at GEARS, 70 S. Poplar St., Elizabethtown. Participants will make holiday treats and decorations, play games, and engage in themed activities.
Girls' Volleyball Camp for girls in grades five to eight will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, July 26, through Thursday, July 29, at the Mount Calvary gym, 625 N. Holly St., Elizabethtown. The camp will focus on the fundamentals of the game, including passing, hitting, and serving.
PiYo Class, a fusion of Pilates and yoga-inspired moves, will be offered on Tuesdays, July 27 to Sept. 7, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Fighting Dragons Fitness Center, 101 Cherry St., Elizabethtown. The class is open to individuals age 14 and older.
"If We Build It, They Will Come," for children in grades three through nine, will be held on Monday to Friday, Aug. 2 to 6, from 6:15 to 8:15 p.m. at the GEARS Community Center, 70 S. Poplar St., Elizabethtown. Attendees will build volcanoes, marble chasers, birdhouses, and more. Emphasis will be placed on teamwork, engineering and having fun.
Snapology Amusement Park Adventures will be available to youths ages 7 to 14 on Monday through Friday, Aug. 9 to 13, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Elizabethtown Park pavilion 2, 1 Ken Lane, Elizabethtown. Participants will design their own amusement park, using Lego bricks and other building materials to make coasters and other rides.
GEARS will offer its Girls Middle School Volleyball Program, with participants competing in a Middle School Volleyball League on Monday nights. Teams are for girls in grades five to six and seven to eight. The program will be held on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from Monday, Aug. 16, to Monday, Oct. 25, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Stoneybrook Park. League play will occur on Mondays, Sept. 13 to Oct. 25, with match times between 6 and 8 p.m. Practices will be held outdoors at Stoneybrook Park or at an indoor location if available. League games/tourneys will take place at Spooky Nook Sports, 2913 Spooky Nook Road, Manheim. The fee includes the league fee, league tournaments, uniforms and AAU insurance.
