GEARS Will Host Eggstravaganza

Head to Elizabethtown Community Park, located off Mount Joy Street in Elizabethtown, and get ready to hunt for eggs when GEARS presents its annual Eggstravaganza on Saturday, April 9. The event will begin at 10 a.m. and will feature egg hunts for people of all ages. The egg hunt age groups and times are as follows: age 2 and under at 10:15 a.m., ages 3 to 6 at 10:30 a.m., ages 7 to 9 at 10:45 a.m and ages 10 to 12 at 11:15 a.m. At 11:30 a.m., a senior citizen egg hunt will be held for anyone age 60 and up. The egg hunts will conclude with an adult hunt for people age 13 and up at 11:45 a.m. There is a small fee due on the day of the event for the adult egg hunt, but egg hunts for all other age groups are free.

GEARS staff members are excited to return to a full celebration after scaling the event back last year due to COVID, said Lee Eckert, program coordinator. "There is no preregistration this year. You just show up on the day of the event," he noted, adding that the festivities will include a variety of activities. "We'll have an inflatable slide, a barrel train, an inflatable soccer kick, and we'll have a balloon artist on-site making balloon animals." The Easter Bunny will also be on hand for free selfies at a photo station.

Eckert noted that all of the egg hunts feature prizes. Eggs are filled with candy, which is donated by Mars Wrigley; small toys; or a grand prize including Laserdome passes and Dutch Wonderland tickets. In the senior and adult egg hunts, prizes include a variety of gift cards to local restaurants and attractions. "Our grand prize for the adult egg hunt is a pair of AirPods Pro," Eckert said.

He emphasized that the event offers a fun way to spend time in the park, whether it's just for a few minutes or for several hours. "This is a busy time of year for families, so people can pop in and stay just for an egg hunt, or they can hang out and do all the activities and spend the day in the park," he explained. "And it's definitely an all-ages event, with opportunities for people from babies to senior citizens to participate."

The Elizabethtown Rotary Club and students from Elizabethtown Area High School's Student Council will be volunteering during the Eggstravaganza, Eckert said, noting that several thousand people have participated in the activities in past years. He added that the event is just one more way for GEARS to connect with residents.

"As a nonprofit, our first priority is to give back to the community," he said. "We love to do events like this where we can show our appreciation to our community."

The Eggstravaganza will be held rain or shine. For more information, visit http://www.getintogears.org/eggstravaganza.
