Get Your Motor Running

Over the past two decades, the annual Motorsports Show at the LCBC Manheim location has grown to become one of the largest free car shows on the East Coast, said Dean Hershey, men's ministry and motorsports coordinator at LCBC Church. This year's show will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 12, at 2392 Mount Joy Road, Manheim.

"Our first show started with just three grills and around 50 cars," Hershey noted. "This year's Motorsports Show will feature over 1,000 antique, classic, muscle cars, tuners, street rods, motorcycles and scale model cars."

Prizes will be awarded, including 10 custom-made trophies, and the show will also feature food, including doughnuts and ice cream, food provided by Hess's Barbecue and Bricker's French Fries and beverages provided by Kreider Farms. Free face painting and inflatables will be available for kids, as well as a radio-controlled car racing track for adults.

"This year's show will celebrate America's favorite Chevy Camaro and Pontiac Firebird, with a designated parking area featuring all generations of Camaros, Firebirds, special models, Z28, Trans Am and other limited editions," Hershey said. He encouraged participants to also check out a restored Great Expectations II top fuel dragster and its nitro-burning 1,200-horsepower engine. "You will also learn how one rare '69 Camaro RS Z28 found its way back home to the original owner," Hershey stated. "Whether you are a Chevy or Pontiac fan or not, you don't want to miss the show."

The show is open to all vehicles and is free for both entrants and guests. The online registration deadline for vehicles is 4 p.m. on Wednesday, June 9, but in-person registration will also be accepted at the event.

Hershey said the show, which is celebrating its 21st year, is an important outreach mission of the church. "The LCBC Motorsports Show is a great way to connect with our community," he stated, "and it's a great environment for people looking to take a first step in their lives being changed by Christ."
