A gift card giveaway event will take place on Saturday, May 30, at Calvary Bible Church, 629 Union School Road, Mount Joy, from noon to 4 p.m. Anyone living in the area is invited to receive a $5 gift card; people do not need to be Mount Joy residents to attend.
The church's desire for this initiative is twofold. First, the church aims to support small, local businesses that have been adversely affected by COVID-19. The focus is on locally owned and run Mount Joy businesses that either have closed or have been limited in their operations. One of the primary reasons organizers chose a $5 amount was to encourage people to spend some of their own money. For example, they might consider ordering an appetizer when they normally would refrain. Second, through small gifts to community members, church members hope to be a blessing to their neighbors.
More than 900 gift cards as well as milk will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Attendees will stay in their cars and process to the giveaway station. Forty volunteers from the church are scheduled to assist.
Gift cards from a variety of businesses will be available. They include Gus's Keystone Family Restaurant, Mount Joy Diner, Country Table Restaurant, Harvey's Main Street Bar-B-Q, Papa's Pizza, Two Cousins, Today's Pizza, DiMaria's Pizza, Tres Hermanos, Jade Garden, Kanji Japanese Restaurant, The Bake Shoppe at Country Table, Made With Love Not Gluten Bakery, Little Dippers Ice Cream, Higher Grounds, Dutch Country Hand-Rolled Soft Pretzels, Floral Designs of Mount Joy, The Craft Factory, Bearly Used Boutique, The Gentlemen's Barbershop, Mount Joy Barber, Shear Expressions and Designs on Main Hair Salon.
In addition to attending the event, community members are invited to support the giveaway by praying that God's reputation is enhanced by this effort.
