The GOAL Project, located at 313 Liberty St., Lancaster, will offer the first session in a three-part bilingual series on creating a sustainable addiction prevention and recovery support ministry. The workshop will be held on Saturday, Feb. 27, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Eglesia Rohrerstown Mennonite Church, 601 Rohrerstown Road, Lancaster. For each participating church, a clergy person and two to three laity and staff should attend.
This workshop will be delivered by Celso Mesias, prevention specialist, and Steven Schedler, LCSW, CAADC, CCS. The event will adhere to social distancing guidelines, and masks and hand sanitizer will be provided.
During the workshop, clergy, program/ministry leaders and key stakeholders from various faith backgrounds will gather to explore their organizations' beliefs, ideas, and attitudes toward addiction and substance use. This workshop will explore the role of the faith community in awareness, education, and recovery support and provide tips for initiating a team program/ministry. The workshop counts for six PCB credit hours.
GOAL Project's mission is to prepare and support the community in addressing the challenges of addiction and recovery.
Through the F.A.I.T.H. Initiatives Program, GOAL helps local faith communities to build sustainable teams to prevent substance misuse/abuse and to offer support to help sustain recovery. The workshop series is delivered by local presenters in collaboration with Faith Partners, a nationally recognized nonprofit organization that has trained hundreds of congregational teams from 22 different faith traditions in 29 states. In Lancaster and York counties, 11 churches are in various stages of ministry development. The F.A.I.T.H. Initiatives Program is supported by the Lancaster County Drug and Alcohol Commission and Compass Mark.
