Golf Outing Sets Fundraising Record

The YMCA of Greater Brandywine raised a record amount of more than $170,000 during the 10th annual Chester County Corporate Championship held at Stonewall Links in Elverson on Sept. 30. The total was more than five times the amount raised in 2010, the first year the event was held. This event, presented by Precor, raises funds to benefit the Seventh Grade Initiative program, which offers any seventh-grader in Chester County a complimentary one-year membership to the YMCA.

The Seventh Grade Initiative program is an opportunity for the Y to engage, cultivate and connect with youths in their early teenage years, a time that is crucial to their development and when they may begin distancing themselves from formal organizations, friends and family and experimenting with unhealthy behaviors.

This year's Chester County Corporate Championship was an opportunity for 130 area business leaders to play golf on the green at Stonewall Links and support the more than 1,400 local seventh-grade YMCA memberships given annually through event sponsorships, registration fees and live auction proceeds.

At the event, 10-year golf participants were recognized for their involvement throughout the decade with a plaque. These participants include Wawa, Fulton Bank, Pennoni, Elite Group, Communications Test Design Inc., NSM Insurance Group, Precor and The Tri-M Group LLC.

The YMCA of Greater Brandywine (YGBW), an association of eight YMCAs serving Chester County, is a nonprofit organization committed to nurturing the potential of every child, promoting healthy living and fostering social responsibility through life-changing programs for all.
