Acorn Acres Wildlife Rehabilitation is partnering with five businesses to present Poppy's second annual Groundhog Day Scavenger Hunt Event. Centering on Acorn Acres' ambassador groundhog, Poppy the Groundhog, and local businesses, the multi-day event aims to put a fun, socially distanced spin on Groundhog Day.
Each partnering business is preparing a Poppy-themed product or special offering that will be available to experience at the business or by way of curbside pickup, and some businesses will offer the option to have the product shipped to customers.
Poppy will give her official prognostication at Ville & Rue, 8 W. King St., Suite 816, Lancaster, on Groundhog Day, Wednesday, Feb. 2, 11 a.m. The event will also be livestreamed on Facebook; community members may search for @AcornAcresWR. Poppy will visit with guests afterward.
A groundhog educational presentation will be held at Lancaster Recreation Commission, 525 Fairview Ave., Lancaster, on Friday, Feb. 4, at 9:30 a.m. An activity will follow.
Groundhog-themed snacks and photos will be available during First Friday, Feb. 4, at 3 p.m. at Blossom Med Spa, 101 N. Queen St., Suite 93, Lancaster.
Poppy will greet visitors at Miesse Candies, 118 N. Water St., Lancaster, on Saturday, Feb. 5, at 11 a.m. Pensupreme ice cream will be available.
A brunch with Poppy will begin at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 6, at Zoetropolis, 112 N. Water St., Lancaster. Poppy will also pick a basket winner, and the movie "Groundhog Day" will start at 11 a.m.
Some businesses plan to donate a portion of their proceeds to Acorn Acres Wildlife Rehabilitation, a nonprofit wildlife rehabilitation facility in Millersville that specializes in squirrels, cottontail rabbits, and groundhogs.
