GVWA Will Offer Nature Programs

Feb 21, 2020 -

Green Valleys Watershed Association (GVWA) invites community members to attend Nature On Tap, a new winter program series for adults age 21 and over. Programs will take place at Stone Barn Cellars Winery, 3050 Pottstown Pike, Spring City. According to Dawn White, GVWA education programs coordinator, the talks will be held in a large restored barn at the location.

The first program, "Help! I Found a Baby Bird! - How to Help Injured or Orphaned Wildlife," will be held on Friday, Feb. 21, from 7 to 9 p.m. Speaker Peggy Hentz, accompanied by her animal ambassador from Red Creek Wildlife Center in Schuylkill Haven, will discuss wildlife rehabilitation, including what it is, who can participate and what citizens need to know about helping wildlife in need.

The next program will be on Saturday, March 14, from 7 to 9 p.m. The talk will focus on the plight and conservation of the American chestnut tree.

A fee will be charged per program. GVWA members will receive a discount. The fee includes light refreshments and one complimentary beverage. "We will have desserts and cheese and crackers," White said.

White explained that having the program off-site will allow even more people to participate. "(Stone Barn Cellars Winery is) right up the road from us, and, hopefully, it will get more people out and get a new audience (for our programs)," she said.

Spaces are limited, and registration, including prepayment, is required. Readers may contact White at dwhite@greenvalleys.org or 610-469-8646 for more details. Registration will close when spaces are filled, or by the Thursday prior to each event.

White also announced that Summer Nature Day Camp registration opened on Feb. 4 for GVWA members and that open registration will begin on Wednesday, March 4. Details and registration forms are available at http://www.greenvalleys.org/summer-nature-day-camp.

Green Valleys Watershed Association is a nonprofit conservation organization headquartered at Welkinweir, a 224-acre nature sanctuary located in East Nantmeal Township.
