Youths Earn Eagle Scout Award

MaxAnthony Hashem and Thomas Wang, both members of Troop 2 at St. Joseph's Church in Downingtown, achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest position in Boy Scouts, on Dec. 10, 2019. This accomplishment represents many years of hard work, leadership, adventure and dedication to the Boy Scout program.

MaxAnthony is the son of John and Lisa Hashem of Coatesville. He is a junior at Bishop Shanahan High School. MaxAnthony is a member of marching band, concert band, jazz band, choir, All Catholic Jazz Band, All Catholic Band and All Catholic Orchestra. He was chosen to participate in PMEA District 12 Orchestra in February. MaxAnthony is also active with the Faith and Action class at Bishop Shanahan, assisting with retreats for younger students and various service projects.

MaxAnthony's Eagle Scout Project was to refurbish and restore 12 old and broken instruments for Bishop Shanahan's Fine Arts Department. The newly refurbished instruments are available to students at Bishop Shanahan. The completed project allows students the opportunity to learn a new instrument without the expense of purchasing one.

Thomas is the son of Jimmy and Fenglan Wang of Downingtown. Thomas is a junior at Malvern Preparatory School, where he is an Edge scholar and a member of the debate team. Thomas is also a member of the jazz band and the gospel band as well as the water polo, crew and rowing, cross-country skiing and tennis teams. He participated in a post-hurricane rebuilding trip to Houston in January. Thomas was the 2019 Silver Buckle recipient at Horseshoe Scout Reservation summer camp.

Thomas' Eagle Scout Project was a "Take a Book, Leave a Book" shelter at Lionville Community Park in Exton. The structure houses books for children of all ages to take and enjoy. Book donations are always welcome at the site.
