Highlanders Band Will Perform

Sep 15, 2019 - 2:00 pm

The Quittapahilla Highlanders will present a concert on Sunday, Sept. 15, at 2 p.m. at the Eicher Arts Center on Cocalico Street in Ephrata Borough's Grater Park. Refreshments will be provided. The concert will be held rain or shine.

Weather permitting, the Lebanon County-based Highlanders band will play its bagpipes and drums outside the Eicher Arts Center, so attendees are encouraged to bring folding chairs.

The Highlanders began about 25 years ago in the Annville area of Lebanon County. In the Scottish highlands, bands often took their name from a nearby body of water, so the Quittapahilla Highlanders took theirs from Quittapahilla Creek in Lebanon County. Quittapahilla is a word Native Americans used that means "a stream that comes out of the ground under pines." The band uniforms are inspired by the traditional uniforms of the Black Watch, 3rd Battalion, Royal Regiment of Scotland.

The program is part of a series of free, Sunday afternoon cultural and entertainment events hosted by the Eicher Arts Center. While admission is free, donations will be accepted for the Eicher Arts Center. The building was constructed by the Eicher family for the family farm in the early 18th century. It served as a hotel for much of the 20th century.
