History Center Plans Programs

York County History Center, 250 E. Market St., York, will offer a variety of programs to the public. Programs are free, unless otherwise noted. For details, readers may visit http://www.yorkhistorycenter.org.

The Summer Family Maker Series: Bake Oven Class will take place on Saturday, June 1, at the Colonial Complex, 157 W. Market St., York. Sessions will be available from 10 a.m. to noon and from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Participants will be making fresh herb and garlic scones and pizzas to share with the group in the bake oven on-site. Space is limited, and registration is required. The program is open to individuals age 5 and up. Participants should wear closed-toe shoes. The Colonial Complex will be open from 6 to 9 p.m. on First Friday, June 7. The evening will feature a s'mores treat, yard games, and more.

The Second Saturday program, "The Fires of Penn's Woods," will be held on Saturday, June 8, at 10:30 a.m. The program will be presented by author Mike Klimkos of Carlisle.

The South Central Genealogical Society will meet at the History Center on Sunday, June 9, at 2:30 p.m. The meeting will feature Jeff Bach from The Young Center for Anabaptist and Pietist Studies at Elizabethtown College.

The 27th annual Art and Leisure Auction will be held on Friday, June 14, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at 217 W. Princess St., York. The evening theme will be "The 1920s: A Gatsby Garden Party" and will feature culinary goods, music, and silent and live auctions. The York Civil War Roundtable will meet at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19, at the History Center. Michael Jesberger will present "Stealing the Body of Abraham Lincoln: Strange but True Tale of Our 16th President."
