Hockey Team Seeks Funds

The Palmyra Black Knights Sled Hockey Team is an adaptive sports team that enables youths and adults with disabilities in the central Pennsylvania area to play sled ice hockey. The program is USA Hockey-sanctioned and is a nonprofit, volunteer organization.

Sled hockey is much like stand-up hockey, except players sit in a sled and use two hockey sticks to propel themselves and play the game. Some players with limited arm mobility/strength have a "pusher" who helps them move on the ice.

The team welcomes anyone age 6 and up who has a physical disability that prevents them from playing stand-up hockey. Many of the players drive long distances, sometimes from other states, just to practice and play on the team.

While the team does traditional fundraising to offset most of its expenses, this year it needs additional assistance to purchase ice time so it can continue to practice throughout the summer. For more information, readers may visit http://www.gofundme.com/palmyra-black-knights-sled-hockey.
