Christian Homeschool Association of Pennsylvania will offer "Homeschooling Your Child with Learning Differences" with Sarah Collins on Thursday, Aug. 20, at 2 p.m. on Zoom.
The course aims to help participants think from the big picture to the nitty gritty of designing their homeschooling program for next year. It will address the following questions: "How do I know what to teach in a school year?" "How do I know if I am doing enough for my child with special needs?" "How do I implement his or her IEP at home?" and "What does the state of Pennsylvania expect from me?"
Collins is an occupational therapist with a background in both pediatrics and home health. When in a client's home, Collins was introduced to homeschooling and the atmosphere of learning within the home. Later that year, due to a move, the opportunity to begin the Collins Academy of Excellence arose. Though the style of homeschooling has changed over the years, the overarching goal of ushering the children toward their specific purpose has remained. After two years of homeschooling, Collins noticed that families consistently asked the same questions and realized that they could benefit from consulting with an OT for guidance within their homeschools. She consults on specific needs in a person, specific needs for a family, changes in the environment, and changes in the activity.
