Honoring The Fallen

Area residents are invited to the Columbia Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony on Sunday, May 26, to honor the men and women who have died while serving in the United States military. The ceremony will begin at 1 p.m. at the Locust Street Park gazebo. In the case of inclement weather, the ceremony will take place in the social room at St. John's Lutheran Church, Sixth and Locust streets.

The Bainbridge Band will perform beforehand, beginning at 12:15 p.m. Mayor Leo Lutz will offer remarks, and the main ceremony speaker will be Magisterial District Judge Miles Bixler. The American Legion Post 372 is the host post.

The parade will begin at 2:30 p.m. from 10th and Manor streets. It will proceed to South Fourth Street, Union Street, Second Street, and Locust Street, ending at Sixth and Locust streets.

The themes for the parade will be World War I and celebrating the 100th anniversary of the founding of the American Legion. There will be six divisions, with five marching bands. Various community groups and veterans organizations will also march in the parade.

World War II veteran Ray Wallace will serve as grand marshal of the parade.
