Honoring The Fallen

Memorial Day is a time set aside to recognize and pay tribute to the many individuals who have died defending the freedom and democracy of this nation. In honor of this cherished patriotic observance, the members of American Legion Conewago Post 329 and Sons of the American Legion Squadron 329 invite the community to the annual Elizabethtown Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 27. The parade will step off at 10 a.m.; however, participants should meet at 9:30 a.m. at American Legion Post 329, 240 N. Hanover St., Elizabethtown.

The parade will travel south on Market Street before turning left on College Avenue, after which it will turn left on Spruce Street toward Washington Street and conclude at Elizabethtown Community Park. A ceremony will then take place at the park's new pavilion, beginning at approximately 11 a.m.

Parade participants will include the Elizabethtown Area High School marching band, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, local fire companies, and a variety of antique and custom vehicles. Military veterans from the area are invited to march in the parade, as well.

At the ceremony in the park, Elizabethtown Mayor Chuck Mummert will serve as master of ceremonies. Lt. Col. Stacy Holman will be the featured guest speaker.

Individuals, businesses, churches, and organizations that have not preregistered but are interested in participating in the parade may sign up on the morning of the parade at American Legion Post 329 beginning at 8:30 a.m.
