Hospice Sets Support Groups, Programs

Hospice & Community Care and the Pathways Center for Grief & Loss are offering various programs to the community. For more information or to register for programs when requested, readers may call the Pathways Center at 717-391-2413 or 800-924-7610.

Coping With the Loss of a Spouse or Companion, a drop-in group for adults, will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 17, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at The Essa Flory Center, 685 Good Drive, Lancaster, and Tuesday, Sept. 24, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the Pathways Center for Grief & Loss, 4075 Old Harrisburg Pike, Mount Joy. The free meetings will include a presentation and an informal time to talk with others. No registration is needed.

Newly Bereaved Program, a three-week series, will be held on Wednesdays, Sept. 11, 18, and 25, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Pathways Center. The free series will provide an overview of common grief responses and is intended to help individuals to begin to identify coping tools. Space is limited, and registration is required.

A Bereavement Workshop: The Power of Your Whispers will be offered on Sept. 18 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Pathways Center. The workshop will be led by author Kim Kluxen Meredith, who will help individuals learn how to tune in and be guided on their grief journey. Aging America: Coping With Loss, Dying, and Death in Later Life has been set for Thursday, Oct. 3, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Pathways Center. During this prerecorded teleconference, Aging America panelists will deliver an in-depth discussion on innovative programs and new approaches to support older adults. A local panel discussion will address attendees' questions following the program. The program is valid for 2.5 hours of CE credit available online through Hospice Foundation of America. Registration is free; however, a fee will be due at the time of registration for those needing CE credits. The registration deadline is Monday, Sept. 30.

Growing Through Grief, a six-week series for people age 18 or older who are grieving a death that occurred at least nine months ago, has been scheduled for Mondays, Oct. 7 through Nov. 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Pathways Center. The group aims to provide a safe place for individuals to explore how they have been impacted by their loss, who they are apart from their loved one, and how they can continue to reorganize their life. Space is limited. Interested individuals will first meet with a bereavement counselor to determine if the group will meet their needs.
