Organization Puts Spring/Summer Ball On Hold
The most recent Hempfield Youth Association (HYA) intramural (rec) basketball season closed out in a flourish with an exciting boys' grade 4U title game. More than 100 fans attended the event, which ended with an attempted buzzer beater shot that circled the rim and then tipped out. The final score was the G4U Reds 30 and the G4U Silverstreaks 28.
"Kudos to both teams for the effort they put in," said HYA president Fran Lukawski.
Lukawski noted that during the winter and early spring, HYA offers travel basketball teams for boys and girls in grades five and six and intramural basketball play for girls in grades one through six and boys in grades one through four. Girls' softball and boys' baseball programs are typically held in spring and early summer. HYA's programs are open to Hempfield residents.
"We are currently in a holding status due to the COVID-19 actions, and as soon as it becomes safe to do so, we look forward to opening up our programs once again," Lukawski commented. "For basketball enthusiasts, we should have postings on the website offering guidance into next winter's season going up after Labor Day."
