An instructional coed volleyball program for students in grades three through six within the Hempfield School District will be offered in October. The sessions will take place in the gym at Centerville Middle School, 865 Centerville Road, Lancaster, on Wednesdays, Oct. 2, 9, 16 and 23. Sessions will begin at 6 p.m., with registration at 5:45 p.m. All participants should bring a water bottle.
Hempfield High School volleyball coaches Brittany McMullen and Morgan Buterbaugh will serve as the main instructors. Their goals for the program include teaching the players to pass, hit, and set a ball, as well as how to rotate and play the game of volleyball. McMullen and Buterbaugh hope to plant the seed for the sport of volleyball within the community.
The program is sponsored by the Hempfield Volleyball Parents Alumni Association (HVPAA), which held its first instructional program in February. Forty-five children attended each of the sessions, and Team Cucumber won the camp crown.
Separate registration fees have been set per child and per family. Early registration is encouraged to ensure participation, and readers may visit http://www.facebook.com/hempfieldevb to sign up and to find out more information about the program. Additional information about HVPAA is available by contacting Grant Shultz at skitunes@comcast.net.
