The Hay Creek Valley Historical Association (HCVHA) will present its annual Irish breakfast buffet on Saturday, March 16, from 7 a.m. to noon at Historic Joanna Furnace Iron Works, 1250 Furnace Road, Geigertown.
The breakfast will feature a menu of pancakes, French toast, country sausage, bacon, scrapple, creamed chipped beef, scrambled eggs, country-style potatoes, fruit, coffee and juice. "The unique items for our Irish breakfast will be homemade corned beef hash, Irish soda bread and oven-baked oatmeal, which is a big favorite to our breakfast attendees," noted Mark Zerr, HCVHA executive director.
Diners are encouraged to wear green to the event. While eating breakfast, they will be able to listen to traditional Irish music performed by Phyllis Hummel of Denver.
"Most of the Irish and some Scottish songs to be heard would have been familiar to the Scotch-Irish workers at Joanna Furnace and their families in the local community," Zerr noted.
A fee will be charged for breakfast, and there will be separate prices for adults and for children ages 5 to 11. Children under age 5 may eat free of charge. No reservations are required.
Those who attend the breakfast may also purchase tickets for the upcoming chicken potpie and chili sale to be held on Thursday, March 21, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The homemade food items will be sold by the quart. The deadline to order is March 16.
"This will be the only time you will be able to get the potpie and chili before our festival in the fall," Zerr pointed out.
Net proceeds from the breakfast and food sale will support the restoration and educational projects of HCVHA at Joanna Furnace Iron Works.
