Three candidates running for the position of judge for the York County Court of Common Pleas will participate in a Judicial Forum hosted by and the York County Bar Association (YCBA) and York College of Pennsylvania Center for Community Engagement to help inform voters in advance of the municipal primary in May. The candidates are Jonelle Eshbach, Matthew Menges, and Sandra Thompson. Each candidate will have an equal opportunity to address the public by answering questions developed by a panel of community leaders and attorneys.
The event is free and open to the public and will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30, at the Evelyn and Earle Wolf Hall on the campus of York College, 441 Country Club Road, York. The candidates' meet-and-greet will be immediately prior to the event from 6:30 to 7 p.m. with the question-and-answer session scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. in the DeMeester Recital Hall.
Dr. G. Terry Madonna, Franklin & Marshall College, will moderate the forum. Panelists will include Vincent Cannizzaro, The Arthur J. Glatfelter Institute for Public Policy and Master of Public Policy and Administration Program, York College of Pennsylvania; Mike Gorsegner, a local television station; Scott Fisher, editor for a local newspaper; and John C. Uhler, Esq., CGA Law, retired judge for York County Court of Common Pleas and YCBA past president.
Judges elected to the York County Court of Common Pleas hear major civil and criminal cases, in addition to deciding cases that involve adoption, divorce, child custody, abuse, juvenile delinquency and dependency, termination of parental rights, estates, guardianships, charitable organizations, and other matters. On Tuesday, Nov. 5, one judge will be elected to the Common Pleas court to serve a 10-year term.
