Susquehanna National Heritage Area (SNHA) has posted several kayaking programs, along with two lectures.
Sunset Mini Heritage Paddle and Heritage Paddle Tours will be offered from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on select dates. In partnership with Shank's Mare Outfitters, an outing will be held at Zimmerman Center for Heritage, 1706 Long Level Road, Wrightsville, on Wednesday, Aug. 4. In partnership with Chiques Rock Outfitters, activities will take place at Columbia Crossing River Trails Center, 41 Walnut St., Columbia, on Wednesdays, Aug. 11, 18, and 25.
SNHA staff members will provide an interpretive overview to each area and will be on the water to show important sights and views. This out-and-back paddle leaves and arrives at the same place. The outings are best are for confident beginners. The per-person fees includes use of a kayak and equipment, paddle instruction, and an on-water guide.
SNHA will also offer Heritage Paddle Tours. These two-hour paddles will explore different themes and sights along the river. Kayak excursions will be led by professional kayak guides and SNHA staff members. These outings are best for intermediate paddlers. The per-person includes use of a kayak, paddle, and PFD; shuttle transportation; and a guided tour with SNHA staff. The options of single or tandem kayaks are available.
Tour dates, themes, and routes are as follows: Sunday, Aug. 22, from 9 to 11:30 a.m., "Power of the River," from Columbia to Blue Rock, and Sunday, Sept. 12, from 9 to 11:30 a.m., "Natural Susquehanna," from Falmouth to Bainbridge.

SNHA has also announced that Lynn Smoker's lecture, "Exploring the Exhibit Collection," has been rescheduled and will now be held on Thursday, July 29, at 6 p.m. at Columbia Crossing River Trails Center, 41 Walnut St., Columbia. The lecture is also now free. Smoker will speak on hunting, fishing, and trapping traditions in the local area.

Jeff Van Brookhoven's lecture, previously scheduled for Aug. 6, has been modified, as well. Instead of giving the presentation, the author and collector of antique duck decoys will showcase his collection during the Conejohela Flats Duck Decoy Contest at Columbia Crossing on Saturday, Aug. 7. The contest, set for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., is the Lancaster Chapter of Delta Waterfowl's annual contest of diver, puddler, and confidence decoys.
