Kraybill Mennonite School, 598 Kraybill Church Road, Mount Joy, will hold an open house on Monday, Nov. 11. Attendees will be able to see classes in action from 9 a.m. to noon. The principal, teachers, and parents will be available from 3 to 5 p.m. to give tours, discuss the curriculum, and share about the school.
The school day is from 8:15 a.m. to 3 p.m., with the daily Early Risers Club beginning at 7 a.m. and the Kids' Choice Club from 3 to 5:30 p.m. for an additional cost.
Kraybill has been an active part of the Mount Joy community for 70 years. The school provides education for students in prekindergarten through eighth grade.
A full-day prekindergarten program is available two to five days a week for children who are 4 years old by Sept. 1. The program is licensed and accredited and taught by a certified teacher with a full-time aide. The focused learning environment teaches through play activities and is intended to help children navigate the social and procedural environment of school.
The kindergarten program is a full-day program running three to five days a week for students who are 5 years old by Sept. 1. It is designed to be holistic in nature and developmentally appropriate.
Kraybill Mennonite is accredited through AdvancED and Mennonite Education Agency, and all teachers are certified. The school strives to combine strong academics with a Christian perspective, and teachers emphasize the community of the classroom and the larger school. Beyond the traditional subjects, Kraybill offers Spanish beginning in kindergarten, along with music, physical education, and art classes taught by specialists in those areas. Students have the opportunity to participate in weekly chapels, Bible study, and all-school assemblies for holidays. Students also engage in service projects both within the school and in the larger community.
