Krypton Cougars Win Competition

The Krypton Cougars, Team 2539, a high school robotics team based in Palmyra, competed at the 2021 Ramp Riot offseason competition at Wissahickon High School in Ambler on Oct. 30 and 31. Due to COVID, this year's competition consisted of two single-day events, each attended by 15 teams, mostly different, rather than the normal two-day event with 30 teams.

Composed of high school students from Palmyra, Hershey, and homeschool programs, the Krypton Cougars team competes in the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC). FIRST stands for "for inspiration and recognition of science and technology." After completing the 2021 at-home season with its first championship blue banner in March, the team entered several local offseason competitions to develop new members and get back to live competition.

At 2021 Ramp Riot, the Krypton Cougars' robots qualified first both days with perfect 6-0 records, allowing them to become captains of the No. 1 Three-Team Alliance to compete in the playoffs. On Saturday, the No. 1 Alliance had a 6-1 record to capture the championship trophy. On Sunday, with a different driver and operator, the Team 2539-captained No. 1 Alliance had a perfect 5-0 record to win the Sunday championship trophy. Each day, Team 2539 utilized different driver and operator combinations to give more team members experience for the 2022 season. Team 2539 finished the weekend with a combined record of 23-1.

The Krypton Cougars will start the 2022 FRC season with a kickoff party on Saturday, Jan. 8, at its build site at 318 Taxiway Drive, Palmyra. New members, mentors, and sponsors are invited to join the team, which meets throughout the year on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 9 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
