La Academia Receives Donations

Through the Spanish American Civic Association, La Academia Partnership Charter School recently received an Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) donation of $2,500 from BB&T. The funds will support the school's Early College/Dual Enrollment Program, which provides access to postsecondary education experiences for La Academia students. Many students have enrolled and selected courses from local higher education institutions, including HACC, Central Pennsylvania's Community College and Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology. The recently donated funds will support college tuition, materials, books, transportation, and technology fees.

The Career Readiness Program at La Academia is intended to help students achieve their goals by equipping them with the skills they need for employment. The program involves introducing students to multiple success pathways by exposing them to career options and work-based learning experiences and by linking academic achievement with college and career readiness standards. In addition, the school offers two Advanced Placement (AP) courses: English Literature and Composition and U.S. History.

The school also recently received donations of pizza from local pizza restaurants. The food was delivered to La Academia Esports Club members while they participated in five weekly evening competitions. The food helped to provide nourishment to the competitors. Esports is competitive, organized video gaming, in which participants from different teams face off in the same games that are played by at-home gamers.

La Academia is a public charter school. The school has an enrollment of 220 students in sixth through 12th grades. The school offers a small, individualized program for students in Lancaster County.
