LancasterHistory Offers Programs

LancasterHistory, 230 N. President Ave., Lancaster, reopened to the public for limited capacity, reservation-only programs and offerings on Oct. 29. LancasterHistory has been closed to the public since March 14 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The organization will be open for designated hours on Thursdays through Saturdays.

Individuals looking to access on-site resources in the Research Center are required to prepurchase a pass to utilize the center. Admission slots are available on Thursdays through Saturdays at 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. in two-hour increments.

"Lancaster in the '60s" is LancasterHistory's latest exhibition, having debuted in late November 2019. Those looking to visit the exhibition must prepurchase admission. One-hour admission slots are available on Thursdays through Saturdays at 9:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m.

Hourlong walking tours of the Campus of History are available on Thursdays through Saturdays at 9:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. Led by a tour guide, visitors will be escorted around the campus and will hear stories about the men and women who called the property home as far back as 1824. Using 19th-century images, letters, and newspapers, tour guides will share descriptions of Wheatland when it was a farm. Visitors will also learn about the architecture of President James Buchanan's Wheatland, when it was constructed, and how it has been altered over the years. The history of Wheatland as a historic site will also be discussed. The walking tour includes the guided tour of the grounds, plus self-guided access to the "Lancaster in the '60s" museum exhibition.

In-person tours of President James Buchanan's Wheatland are still unavailable at this time. However, LancasterHistory has released Wheatland Virtual Tours of the home that are available through Saturday, Nov. 14, at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Tours are facilitated through Zoom. All tickets are required to be purchased in advance either online or over the phone, and face masks are required for entry.
