LancasterHistory, 230 N. President Ave., Lancaster, will host a Regional History Colloquium, "A Revolutionary Idea: The Birth of Freedom of Speech in America," on Thursday, Dec. 5. A reception and book signing will be held at 4 p.m., with the main presentation at 4:30 p.m. in Ryder Hall.
New York University journalism professor Stephen Solomon will share about the protests during the nation's beginnings that included effigies, pamphlets, songs, sermons, cartoons, letters and liberty trees. Solomon will explore through a series of chronological narratives how Americans of the Revolutionary period employed robust speech against the British and against each other.

Additionally, LancasterHistory has posted its December and end-of-year closings. All operations of LancasterHistory, including President James Buchanan's Wheatland, will be closed on the following dates: Tuesday, Dec. 24; Wednesday, Dec. 25; and Tuesday, Dec. 31, through Sunday, Jan. 12, 2020. All operations will reopen on Monday, Jan. 13, for the 2020 season.
