"Teaching American History: The Vietnam War" will be held on Saturday, May 4, at 9 a.m. This seminar for teachers will offer an intensive look at the origins and conduct of the Vietnam War. It is designed in conjunction with LancasterHistory's upcoming exhibition, "Lancaster in the '60s."
The Lancaster Spring ArtWalk will be held on May 4 from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and LancasterHistory will be a stop on this year's walk. The galleries will host walkers visiting a variety of art galleries in downtown Lancaster and the surrounding area. LancasterHistory is offering its exhibitions on "Freedom: To Secure the Blessings of Liberty." Admission to LancasterHistory's museum exhibitions will be free for ArtWalk attendees.
"Blooms and Birds" will be part of the Tanger Arboretum Nature Series on May 4 at 10 a.m. Lancaster County Central Park naturalist Lisa Sanchez will lead a walk through the arboretum to enjoy the sights and sounds of spring. Tickets may be purchased online or by calling 717-392-4633, with free admission for members of the Friends of the Tanger Arboretum. Registration is required.
The African American Heritage Walking Tour will be held on May 4 at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tours will depart from the Lancaster City Visitor Center, 38 Penn Square. Tickets will be available on the day of the event..
"Harriet Lane's Recollections" will be a first-person presentation as part of Living History at Wheatland on May 4. Tours will be given at 1, 2 and 3 p.m.
"Buchanan's America: A Nation Divided" will be a film premiere on Tuesday, May 7, at 6:30 p.m. A panel discussion will follow the film and will include historians and the filmmaker. Tickets to the premiere are free and available online or by calling 717-392-4633..
"Sophisticated Ladies" will be a Thirsty for History Thursday event on May 9 at 6:30 p.m. at the Fulton Theatre, 12 N. Prince St., Lancaster. LancasterHistory CEO Tom Ryan will explain the historical significance of the production on the balcony of the lounge at the Fulton an hour before curtain.
Storytime on Saturday, May 25, at 11 a.m. is designed for children between the ages of 4 and 9, but all children are welcome to experience history through stories and hands-on activities. Storytime is free for children and accompanying adults, but reservations are required.
