On May 11, members of American Legion Post 455 of Stewartstown placed American flags on the graves of all veterans interred at Stewartstown Cemetery.
Members of the Legion, the Sons of the American Legion, the Ladies Auxiliary, and Legion Riders, all from Post 455, participated in the event. The effort was led by post commander Bobby O'Farrell along with volunteers and family members. The placement of flags is part of the annual effort to remember those who have served in the military.
The flags will remain in place at the cemetery as part of the background for Memorial Day ceremonies to be held on Sunday, May 26, at noon, when Post 455 will recognize all veterans and award scholarships to area high school seniors. In 2018, Post 455 presented more than $20,000 in scholarships to local students.
For information on the scholarships, students may contact their high school guidance counselor or call O'Farrell at 717-309-3881.
