Remember when you were a kid and Mom and Dad would pile everybody into the car to go look at Christmas lights? The Women's Club of Manheim is hoping to bring back that nostalgia with its outdoor lighting display tour.
"We typically have an indoor house tour of homes decorated for the holidays, but we didn't do that last year due to COVID," explained Linda Karns, chair of the tour. With this year still uncertain in terms of indoor events, the club decided to do something different. "We wanted to have a presence in the community, and this is a fun way to do that," she stated.
Going by word of mouth, as well as conversations about great light displays on the Little Town of Manheim Facebook page, the group found five Manheim homes to spotlight on the tour.
"It's a driving tour, and the homes are all spaced out really nicely, although they are all still in Manheim," Karns shared. "We have a home in the southern end, in town, in the northern end. We have some with synchronized music, some with winter wonderland scenes. It's a nice variety."
Stops on the tour will include the home of Don and Tammy Krasley, who operate a display they call "Krasley Christmas." It features more than 80,000 LED lights synchronized to music. Additional stops will include "Bayberry Holidays," featuring hundreds of RGB pixel lights, as well as a variety of homes in the Cedar Hollow development. The main home featured on the tour in that development will be Cedar Hollow Farm, featuring a view of the farm's pond and light-filled evergreen. Additional homes include 103 S. Hazel St. and 109 Julia Lane. A full list of stops, including addresses and descriptions, can be found on the Women's Club of Manheim's Facebook page as well as in a Christmas in Manheim brochure available at local businesses.
"We weren't sure how this was going to work this year when we came up with this idea, but the homeowners were all so sweet and willing to be a part of it," Karns noted, adding that the club hopes to return to its traditional indoor home decorating tour next year. Of this year's tour, she said, "We think it's going to be a really special event that will take you back to a time when you were a kid. It's a nice way to spread holiday cheer."
The lights tour will operate on evenings throughout the month of December. For more information, visit http://www.facebook.com/womensclubofmanheim.
