The Dauphin County Library System is celebrating Giving Tuesday on Dec. 3 by partnering with Bethesda Mission and Northern Dauphin Human Services to collect nonperishable food at eight library locations during open hours. In addition to the food drive, the library will collect new and like-new books that will be distributed to individuals and families in the community during library outreach activities and MARCO visits. Books for readers of all ages will be accepted, but books for children will be especially appreciated.
Food donations made at the East Shore Area Library, Kline Library, Madeline L. Olewine Memorial Library, McCormick Riverfront Library, and William H. and Marion C. Alexander Family Library will benefit Bethesda Mission's annual fall food drive. Food donations made at Johnson Memorial Library, Elizabethville Area Library and Northern Dauphin Library will benefit the food pantries at Halifax United Methodist Church, St. Paul's Church and Northern Dauphin Food Pantry through a partnership with the Northern Dauphin Human Services Center.
A list of suggested food drive donation items can be found at http://www.dcls.org/givingtuesday. Canned and boxed foods have been requested by Bethesda Mission and Northern Dauphin Human Services. For those who cannot attend Giving Tuesday, the collection will continue through Friday, Dec. 20.
