Libraries Post Summer Plans

Public libraries of Lancaster County and the Bookmobile will present this year's Summer Reading Program, "A Universe of Stories." The 2019 countywide reading program will begin on Saturday, June 1, and run until Saturday, Aug. 10. The program is open to infants through young adults. Reading Program components include four reading levels: Read Aloud (birth to age 4), Elementary (ages 5 to 9), Tween (ages 10 to 12) and Teen (ages 13 to 19).

The presenters and events will include "Rocking Reptiles" with Jesse Rothacker; CHI St. Joseph Children's Health; Phredd - Ukulele One-Man Band; "The Spirit of Lindbergh" by Neill Hartley; Pout Pout Fish costume character visits; "That Fabulous Franklin" by First Stages; "Lunar Lunacy," "13 Moons on a Turtle's Back," "There's No Place Like Space," "Creating Constellations," "Planet Power," "Space on Earth," and "Let's Take the Moon for a Walk" by Lancaster County Department of Parks and Recreation; "North Museum's Mission to the Moon"; and the Princess of Dutch Wonderland.

New for 2019 is Summer Fitness Quest, a physical activity program for youths and family members. Beginning June 1, libraries will have Summer Fitness Quest booklets to extend learning and to help children ages 5 to 9 to develop an appreciation for the outdoors. The program supports free opportunities for children and adults to visit and enjoy Lancaster County parks and trails as well as Lancaster Conservancy nature preserves.
