Library Activities Planned

Dauphin County Library System has posted its schedule of events for October. To register for programs, visit http://www.dcls.org or call 717-234-4961, option 6.

Programs for young children will include the following: Toddler Story Time on Wednesdays from 10 to 10:30 a.m. on Zoom, for caregivers and their toddlers ages 19 to 35 months; Family Story Time on Tuesdays from 6 to 6:30 p.m. on Zoom, for families with children of all ages; Preschool Story Time on Fridays from 10 to 10:30 a.m. on Zoom, for children ages 3 to 5 and their caregivers; and Born to Read on Mondays from 9:30 to 9:50 a.m. on Zoom, for caregivers and their babies from birth to 18 months.

The schedule also includes Marching Into Math for children ages 3 to 5 on Mondays at 11 a.m. on Zoom; Writing Workshop for teens - those ages 13 to 18 - on Mondays at 4 p.m. on Discord; Anime Club for teens on Thursdays at 4 p.m. on Discord; Discord Hangouts for teens on Wednesdays, Oct. 6 and 20, at 3 p.m. on Discord; the YA Book Club for teens on Wednesdays, Oct. 13 and 27, at 4 p.m. on Discord; the Tween Book Club for tweens - those ages 10 to 12 - on Oct. 27 at 4 p.m. on Zoom; the Novel Thoughts Too! book club for adults on Tuesday, Oct. 19, at 1 p.m. on Zoom.; Voracious Video Gamers! for adults on Oct. 19 at 4:30 p.m. via Zoom; Tween Jackbox Game Night on Thursday, Oct. 21, at 4 p.m. on Zoom and Jackbox; and Spanish Language Conversation Group for anyone age 15 and older on Oct. 27 at noon on Zoom.

Dungeons and Dragons programs will be available to tweens via Zoom on Fridays from 4 to 5 p.m. and to teens via Discord on Fridays from 4 to 6 p.m. and on Saturdays from 3 to 5 p.m.

Paws 2 Read will be available online as well as at Kline Library, 530 S. 29th St., Harrisburg, on Mondays from 5 to 6 p.m. Children ages 6 to 11 may register for a 15-minute time slot.

The Friends of Alexander Family Library will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 5, from 6 to 7 p.m. at William H. and Marion C. Alexander Family Library, 200 W. Second St., Hummelstown.

The Friends of Alexander Family Library will hold their book and media sale at Trinity United Methodist Church, 210 W. Main St., Hummelstown. It will be open to library Friends only, with memberships available at the door, on Tuesday, Oct. 12, from 5 to 8 p.m. and to the public on Wednesday to Friday, Oct. 13 to 15, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 16, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Hari Jones Hidden Histories: Introduction to Genealogy will be presented on Oct. 12 at 6 p.m. on Zoom for adults.

Families with children of all ages are invited to take part in Seasonal Science on Oct. 21 at 6 p.m. via Zoom. Featuring stories and activities about autumn, this program will use supplies that can be found around the house.

Crazy for Coloring, a program for adults, will take place on Monday, Oct. 25, at 5 p.m. at William H. and Marion C. Alexander Family Library. Coloring sheets and colored pencils will be provided, and attendees may bring their own coloring tools.

Stories of the First Nations: Tricksters, Monsters and Lessons Learned will be presented to adults via Zoom on Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. Dovie Thomason, a Native storyteller of Lakota, Plains Apache, and Scot Traveller descent, will share stories of her own life and her peoples' rich oral tradition.
