Library Begins Limited Borrowing

Though the Eastern Lancaster County (ELANCO) Library, 11 Chestnut Drive, New Holland, remains closed to the public, staff members are back in the building and the book drops are now open. Additionally, the library began limited no-contact self-pickup service on June 15.

At this time, the library can only offer items in its building; it cannot request materials from other libraries. Readers may browse the catalog at http://catalog.lancasterlibraries.org/. They should select "Eastern Lancaster County Library" from the pull-down menu and check the box that says "Limit search to available items."

The usual automated hold system remains inactive at this time. Due to limitations of the library database software, the library is unable to fulfill previously placed holds, and all existing holds have been canceled county-wide.

To request specific materials, readers may call 717-354-0525 or email hsmith@elancolibrary.org with the titles they would like.

Anyone who does not have specific books in mind may fill out an online form and staff will choose up to five titles for them. Individuals may fill out the form more than once, requesting books, audiobooks, DVDs, and magazines. Community members should note that all materials will be quarantined a minimum of 120 hours, so turnaround time will be slower than normal. For the upcoming schedule of pickup times, readers may call the library at the aforementioned number.

The library is unable to accept donations of books or movies at this time.

The library is offering a multitude of virtual programs online for people of all ages. A full listing of upcoming virtual events is available is available at https://elancolibrary.org/events/. All in-house events, outreach events, and meeting room rentals are canceled through the end of August. Wi-Fi capabilities continue to extend into the parking lot.

All of the library's electronic resources, including the e-book and e-audiobook collections, continue to be available at https://lancasterlibraries.overdrive.com/ and http://online.lancasterlibraries.org/.

Anyone whose library card is not working may email Heather at hsmith@elancolibrary.org.

Those who do not have library cards may apply for one online. For instructions, readers may contact Heather at the aforementioned email address.

This year's Summer Reading Program for children and teenagers will be completely online. The theme is "Imagine Your Story." Online reading logs will be available starting on Saturday, June 20, and the program will run through Saturday, Aug. 15.
