Library Expands Hours, Services

Manheim Community Library has announced the next phase in its strategic plan to welcoming community members back into the library.

The library opened for in-person browsing on Nov. 2. No appointments are necessary; however, capacity may be limited. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays; 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursdays; and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. On Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to noon, library visits are available by appointment to accommodate the most at-risk patrons. To sign up, readers may call the library at 717-665-6700 during regular hours.

Public computer use and print/copy/fax services are available. The book drop is now open again for convenient book returns.

To gain entry to the library, people should press the button marked "Library" to the right of the door. Participants must wear a mask, practice social distancing, and comply with posted guidelines. The library will maintain sanitation between appointments, continue to quarantine materials, and adhere to current best practices. Connie Kelly, interim director, noted that the library now features hand sanitizer stations, a more open layout, and increased sanitation measures.

Library to Go pickups are available in the lobby of the Manheim Borough building. Materials may be picked up during regular library hours.

Specific items from Manheim Community Library or any of Lancaster County's public libraries may now be requested using the Library System of Lancaster County's holds system. This is the procedure that was used prior to the COVID-19 shutdown. Patrons may search for items in the library catalog at https://search.lancasterlibraries.org/ and request delivery at Manheim Community Library.

Library Pick lets patrons request items without having a specific title in mind. Library staff will make personalized selections based on responses on the online form. This service remains available at http://manheimlibrary.org/library-to-go.

Holds and Library Pick materials will continue to be available for pickup in the lobby of the borough building. After receiving an email that their hold is available, patrons should call the library to schedule pickup. Patrons may then stop by during regular hours on or after the scheduled day to pick up their items.

The expanded services are part of the library's commitment to serve the public while maintaining the safety of staff and patrons during the COVID-19 pandemic until a full return to normal operations can be made.

For the most recent information, readers may visit manheimlibrary.org or search for "Manheim Community Library" on Facebook. Those with questions may call the library at the aforementioned number.
