Library Offers Online Programs

Summer Reading is happening virtually this year. Children may register and record their books using a program called Beanstack, though this program will not be available until Saturday, June 20. Summer Reading performances will not be held at the school or gazebo this year, due to social distancing. The library will present programs virtually using Zoom and other platforms.

On Monday, June 22, Lancaster County Parks will offer "Johnny Appleseed" as a prerecorded show.

Ryan Bridge, the Bug Man, will offer a live Zoom show on Tuesday, June 30, at 10 a.m. The link will be sent prior to June 30.

Drum for Fun with Tammi Hessen will offer a live show on Zoom on Thursday, July 2, at 10 a.m. The link will be sent prior to July 2.

Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania (GSHPA) will offer Endangered Animals on Monday, July 6, at 10 a.m. for both boys and girls. Participants will learn about endangered animals and what they can do to help. They will need paper, a pencil, coloring implements, and access to http://www.worldwildlife.org. Phredd McNaughton will perform live in concert via Zoom on Wednesday, July 8, at 11 a.m. The link will be sent prior to July 8.

Hank the Health Hero will present "Hank's Sensational Day" live on Zoom on Tuesday, July 14, at 10 a.m. The CHI St. Joseph Children's Health educational team of Candace Schneider and puppeteer Matt Martsolf will present the show, which will run from 15 to 20 minutes and will be available at http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCih908LQ60ctMQuX8WrO4QA and http://www.facebook.com/hankthehealthhero/.

GSHPA will offer the Girls Go STEAM Summer Spectacular from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. from Monday to Thursday, July 20 to 23. Participants will explore coding, engineering, creative thinking and teamwork. GSHPA will present Master Builders, a Zoom show for both boys and girls in kindergarten through 12th grade, on Monday, Aug. 3, at 10 a.m. Participants will learn and follow the Engineering Design Process while building new structures. They will need paper, pencil, coloring implements, and building supplies, such as Legos, plastic cups, paper, and blocks. Columbia Public Library's other activities, including Crochet and Knitting, GED classes, Career Link services, and Prime Timer programming, will continue at a date yet to be determined. Lisa will visit schools and day cares in the fall if it is safe for her to do so and if it is permitted by the facilities. Tommy the Reading Dog and Kelly will join the library for virtual storytelling after June 20. In the meantime, participants may enjoy their podcasts by visiting https://columbiapubliclibrary.org/storytime/. The library plans to hold the art auction as soon as it is safe.

The library's curbside service hours as of June 15 are from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and from 3 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Library staff members are able to collect fines by cash or check.
