Library Plans Full Schedule

New Cumberland Public Library, 1 Benjamin Plaza, New Cumberland, will offer a variety of programs and activities. Programs are free and open to the public, unless stated otherwise.

The Friends of the New Cumberland Public Library will hold preowned book sales from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays, June 1 and 15, in Foundation House, located across the shared parking lot. Hardback and paperback books, vintage jewelry, DVDs, music CDs, puzzles, children's books, 33 rpm records, tote bags, note cards, and prints will be available. All proceeds will benefit the library.

Meet the Artist: Christy's Creations will take place on Monday, June 3, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Charley Krone Gallery on the second floor. Christy McKenna will display a collection of art she has created.

Ruth's Mystery Discussion Group will meet on Thursday, June 6, from 10:15 a.m. to noon in the Browsing Room. The focus will be on "West of the Mississippi."

A Write-On Writer's Workshop will be held on Saturday, June 8, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the second-floor meeting room. Additionally, open readings are held each Saturday. For more details, readers may call Sue Kerr at 717-802-2594.

The Wednesday Great Books Discussion Group will meet on Wednesdays, June 12 and 26, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the meeting room. The group is using "Keeping Things Whole: Readings in Environmental Science." The group will discuss "The Economies of the Coming Space Earth" by Kenneth E. The Adult Summer Reading program, "The Universe of Stories," will be held from Friday, June 7, through Thursday, Aug. 8. Adults may register at https://newcumberlandlibrary.beanstack.org or at the library using the catalog computers. Participants who sign up online will still need to stop by the reference desk to pick up their packet with reading logs and more detailed instructions. Participants who track their summer reading may be eligible for prizes.

A variety of children's programs and events open to the entire family will also be offered. All events are free of charge, but some events require registration.

"A Universe of Stories" Summer Learning Program will run from June 7 to Aug. 8. The program will offer opportunities to complete goals and receive a free book as well as hands-on learning programs, fun family events, and engaging entertainment. Participants can earn incentives and tickets for a chance to win prizes all summer by reading, visiting the library, and attending programs. Family entertainment will be offered at 10:30 a.m. in Foundation Hall on Thursdays, June 13 to 27. Entertainers, in order of appearance, will include the Da Vinci Science Center and its Science Magic Show; Andrew's Big Show with juggling, circus skills, physical comedy, and audience participation; and the Forgotten Friend Reptile Sanctuary with 15 reptiles from the backyard and around the world, including all four families of reptiles.

Family Game Night will take place on Monday, June 24, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. for families with children. The library will provide a variety of classic and new board games for children and teenagers. Attendees may bring a game to share.

Family Movie Night will be offered in Foundation Hall on Tuesdays, June 11 and 25, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Movies will be rated G or PG, and free popcorn will be served before the movie at 6:15 p.m. Attendees should bring a cup or water bottle with a lid. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Several events will be offered for young children. Space is limited, and preregistration is required for most programs. Registration will begin on Wednesday, May 29. Fun With My Gym will be offered to children ages 3 to 5 on Monday, June 10, and to children ages 1 to 2 on Tuesday, June 11, at 11:15 a.m. "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" 50th anniversary celebration will be held on Friday, June 14, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. and is open to children ages 4 to 7. Kindergym, designed for children ages 3 to 5, will be offered at 10:30 and 11:15 a.m. on Monday, June 17. Kindertots, open to 2-year-olds and a caregiver, will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 18. Peaceful Poses Kids Yoga, a program for children ages 3 to 6, will start at 10:30 a.m. on June 24. Build and Play, designed for children ages 6 to 24 months, will be offered at 11:15 a.m. on June 25. Mommy and Me Music, open to children up to age 3, will be held on Friday, June 28, at 10:30 a.m.

Events for school-age children will also be offered. Ready for K! is a program for children entering kindergarten in the fall that will be held on Wednesdays, June 12 through July 31, from 10:15 to 11:45 a.m. The program will offer kindergarten readiness activities.

Maker Mania! will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. in Foundation Hall on Monday, June 17, for youths ages 8 to 14. Participants can explore, create, build, play with robots, try out easy engineering challenges, play with computer programming, and see gadgets at work.

Tales for T.A.I.L.S. will take place from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on June 18. Children may register for a 20-minute slot to read aloud to a therapy pet. Registration will begin on Monday, June 3.

VanGo! Museum on Wheels: Special FX will be held on June 18 from 1 to 2 p.m. and is open to youths ages 8 to 12. Susquehanna Art Museum will present an interactive lesson and activity on board its Museum on Wheels, VanGo! The program will feature the exhibit as well as a hands-on activity. Space is limited, and registration will begin on June 3.

Library After Hours Family String Art will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on June 28 and is open to families with children ages 9 to 14. All supplies will be provided. Registration will open on June 3.

Programming for youths ages 12 to 17 will be offered at the library. Teen Library After Hours will be held on June 14 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Attendees should bring a favorite book, which will be used to play a game. Pizza and snacks will be provided. Registration will open on June 3.

Teen Gaming Hour will take place from 3 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 20. Teenagers are invited to drop in for an hour of Wii gaming or board games in the Teen Area.
